Closed-circuit television (CCTV) uses video cameras to capture a picture and transmit the signal to a specific set of monitors. It differs from broadcast TV because it does not allow the signal to be openly transmitted. While any camera can be used in a CCTV system, typically, we think of CCTV systems using surveillance cameras in locations like banks, airports, convenience stores, and casinos. However, surveillance cameras and CCTV systems can also be used in residential communities and private residences.
CCTV systems can operate either continuously or manually as needed to monitor a particular event. They can also be integrated with a DVR that stores footage for a specified period of time. CCTV systems can also be programmed to detect a certain event and record the activities occurring.
